Responsive and Progressive Residential Assessment and Treatment for Non-Primary Addictive Disorders

Mental illness is complex and multi-faceted, often resulting in more than one diagnosis for a specific individual. For example, a patient with an anxiety disorder could also be diagnosed with a secondary addiction disorder due to their usage of drugs, alcohol or gambling to numb their internal distress.

Addiction disorders can seriously and negatively impact an individual’s quality of life, relationships, family, and livelihood. As such an accurate diagnosis is absolutely crucial to the patient’s long-term recovery.

Fortunately, Lindner Center of HOPE’s progressive, proven assessment and treatment program addresses both primary mental health and secondary addiction disorders. Our clinicians are leaders in the use of highly-effective therapies countering substance, and behavioral addictions as well as co-occurring conditions.

Recognizing Substance Addiction

Substance addiction is a pattern of drug or alcohol use that harms the individual and those important to them. Symptoms can vary significantly. Often the individual is increasingly using greater amounts of the substance or taking it for longer time periods. They have probably skipped important personal or work commitments due to using, trying to find or recovering from using the substance. They have also repeatedly tried to reduce or control their usage.

Recognizing Behavioral Addictions

Behavioral addictions are varied and can include addictions to sex, internet, pornography, gaming, shopping, or gambling. While doing or pursing their addiction, the individual typically experiences a loss of control, and engages in compulsive and/or obsessive behaviors.

Patients who come to the Lindner Center of HOPE have had a lack of long-term success with overcoming their addiction and are ready to pursue intensive treatment and recovery.

Responsive and Progressive Treatment and Tools to Overcome Addictions

The first step of treatment is a full diagnostic assessment by our experienced professionals, pinpointing the individual’s addictive symptoms and any co-occurring conditions.

The multidisciplinary team then collaboratively designs an individualized treatment plan to support recovery. The right combination of therapies and education may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), community support groups and additional counseling; supporting and assisting the patient and family.

As they complete the program, patients gain the skills, tools and knowledge to avoid extreme behaviors limiting their ability to function and encourage change to a more successful and fulfilling life.
